November

November was a pretty hectic month. I had a total of 6 fund raisers I did with different schools & churches (I'm a Home Interiors consultant). Five of those are still going on, they turn in the $ tomorrow. I did a lot of traveling from school to school, dropping off brochures, picking up money, unpacking (158!!!) boxes and doing ice cream parties, etc.

I released a new book. Moonlit Dream came out last Monday from Sapphire Blue Publishing. I'm excited about it because it's my first released paranormal, which is my main genre.

I received two reviews this month! I got a 5-heart review for The Fire Still Burns from The Romance Studio which was a great feeling. And I got a wonderful, heartfelt review of Moonlit Dream from a reader (Thank you, SaturnMoonie) that left me gaping at the computer screen, thinking "Seriously? OMG! It's really that good!"

I tried NaNoWriMo and sucked majorly. Ah, well.

I managed to post a new blog on here EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE MONTH! That's a first, and I won't lie. It seems like it would b eeasy, but there were days I really didn't know what to do and I would just brainstorm and brainstorm until finally something hit.

I held some contests. I had a great time doing e-book giveaways on Myspace and meeting new people who joined my Rain's 1st Annual Unofficial But Totally awesome NaNo Contest. Speaking of which, today is the last day to get in entries. Go check the missions at my website and make sure you've completed them all.

I made three book trailers! See, I'm always learning new skills.

It was a pretty hectic month overall, and sadly, I got very little done on the writing front, but that's changing in December. I'm gonna get a book cranked out!

Well, it was fun. Now I must get to thinking who to choose for December's Hunk Of The month on the SBB blog, and enjoy my last day of November, because starting tomorrow, it's time for Operation Tap Out That Mutha!

Oh. Winners of the November contest will be announced tomorrow. Thanks to all who entered, and don't be a stranger.

How I Blew NaNoWriMo

OK, so I was all set and ready for NaNoWriMo. I was going to take the 15000+ words I'd already written for Blood Revelations Book #3 (Obviously that's not the title, it's just what I'm calling the sucker until I can think of a title) and work in the changes I needed, then plow through the rest of the manuscript, getting it done by November 30th.

But then I had the brilliant idea of holding a month-long contest which kind of required me to make sure I had a new blog posted here every single day... while keeping my blog on Myspace updated frequently... and holding additional e-book giveaways on Myspace... and making 3 trailers... an dreading others' books so I could do trailers for them... and going through additional rounds f edits for Moonlit Dream, and going over the copy-edits and galleys... and stressing over my day job which is a whole OTHER story.

Yeah, I was an idiot for thinking I could do NaNoWriMo. BUT... I have this book (and the 5 following it) contracted so it has to get done, and the sooner the better.

I am writing like a madwoman in December! And I totally expect my loyal Net Friends to ride my ass on a daily basis to make sure I'm making progress on it. I know December means Christmas, but you know what... that's one day I won't write.

All my Christmas shopping is done. Since my daddy died, my family has dwindled down to an eighth of what it was (meaning, other than my children who live with me, I really don't see anyone but my brother on a regular basis) so it's not like I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling from here to there.

I can do it. Dammit, I WILL DO IT!

Operation Tap Out That Mutha is on!

Why I Love The Sims 2

There's so much to love about my favorite game. Here's just some of the perks:

Photobucket

Babies! Babies are cute, and with Sim Babies, you don't have to smell the stench of dirty diapers!

Photobucket

Sims can own their own businesses. Get the Open For Business expansion pack and your Sim can run a store, restaurant, car dealership... You name it!

Photobucket

Your Sim could be an author! Tee-hee... Now why would I like that?

Photobucket

Pregnant men! Not like that "pregnant man" on Entertainment Tonight, who's really a woman with an operation that gave him a schlong. Real men! Yup, if your Sim man gets abducted by aliens, he could come back pregnant...

Photobucket

... and have an alien baby (or two, in the case of my guy in the pic).

Photobucket

Wolves!

Photobucket

Aww... Family time!

Photobucket

Wook at the pwetty baby... aww!

Photobucket

Your Sim can be a ballerina!

Photobucket

Fire! If your Sims aren't careful with the stove or fireplace, they can totally catch the place on fire. They can even die in the fire.

Photobucket

You can build really cool houses.

Photobucket

Families. When playing The Sims 2, you can create families in the family maker thingy and then move them into a neighborhood. You can have those Sims marry other Sims and reproduce. Then you get a whole family tree going. It's pretty awesome.

Photobucket

Your Sims can turn into werewolves if bitten by the leader of the pack (werewolf with glowing eyes)

Photobucket

They can turn into vampires if bitten by another vampire

Photobucket

PlantSims! This is what happen to Sims who go crazy with the pesticide

Photobucket

Witches! I don't have the new Apartment expansion pack (it only came out on DVD and I don't have a DVD drive, dammit) but don't they look awesome?

There are so many awesome things about The Sims 2. The Grim Reaper who comes to collect the dearly departed, having (and getting to name) babies, puppies, and kittens, baking, going on vacations in a seperate location (Middle East, Tropical Island or Woods). There's a genie that grants wishes, a Bigfoot you can become friends with, robot people you can build... The list goes on and on. I love The Sims !!!

Meet Some Of My Characters

A question I find myself being asked a lot is... "Who do your characters look like?" It's asked in different ways, but the jest is all the same. Where do I get my inspiration for my characters? What do they look like to me?

Well, they generally come to me fully formed. Sometimes they don't look close enough to anyone I know to make a good comparison. Sometimes they look extremely like (or exactly like) certain celebrities. Those ones, I can "show" you.

Meet My Characters:

From The Fire Still Burns:

Adam Good (David Conrad from Ghost Whisperer)

Photobucket

Brynn Harlow (Cheryl Pollak from The Heights)

Photobucket

From Moonlit Dream:

Jason (Wentworth Miller from Prison Break)

Photobucket

Ming...

Ironically, Ming looks just like the woman on the cover of the book!

From The Blood Revelation series:

Rialto Renaldi (Antonio Sabato Jr, with longer hair)

Photobucket

Jacob (Jake) Porter (Jensen Ackles from Dark Angel & Supernatural)

Photobucket

Jonah Porter (Randall Batinkoff from For Keeps)

Photobucket

Malaika Jordan ( Syesha Mercado)

Photobucket

Those are the ones I can SHOW you. Some of the characters, like Seta, Aria, and Nyla... I just can't find good examples. Seta is kind of a cross between Salma Hayek and the younger version of Priscilla Presley. Aria... I think I actually may have modeled her off one of my daughters, of what I think my oldest daughter will look like when she's older. Nyla... Nyla is BEAUTIFUL. She's caucasian but has a bit of a Hispanic/almost Egyptian-ish look to her. She's very exotic looking... I just can't find ANYONE who resembles her.

I tend to see the men in my stories as celebrities, but the women I "create" in my head. I have no idea why that is. Maybe because most female celebrities are so ridiculously fake-looking I can't stand it. I don't know.

Moonlit Dream ~~~ Win A Free Copy TODAY!!!

EXCERPT:
The remaining wolf turned and stared him down with eyes that faded from red to a smoky topaz. The animal tilted its head and whined. Though it looked as big as the wolves that’d attacked the people he'd been traveling with and had the same red eyes, he sensed no evil. Instinctively, he knew the animal wouldn't hurt him.
Run. Hide yourself.
He started, twisting his head around to discern where the voice he'd heard so clearly had come from. Was there another person in the woods running from the wild beasts? A woman? Had one survived?
Run, you foolish human. Go!
The wolf butted against him with its head, staggered, then fell.
“No way.” He stared at the wolf and, an odd sense of déjà vu washed over him. He'd seen this animal before. He'd dreamed of running through the woods, these woods, with a beautiful black wolf just like her.
He'd woken to find the gorgeous creature staring at him from across his prison cell. No way. No possible way. “I am not out here in the woods hearing animals like freaking Doctor Doolittle.”
You can hear me?
Jason’s eyes widened in disbelief. He tried to back away but the large rock formation blocked his escape route; even the jagged heap of stone looked vaguely familiar. This couldn't be happening. He was just having trouble adapting to the outside world. He'd been in prison too long. That had to be it.
“No freaking way,” he whispered as he studied the animal.
She could only be described as beautiful. Strong, sleek, with fur like black silk shining in the moonlight. He narrowed his eyes as the moon showed something wet glinting off her side.
Tentative and slow, so he wouldn’t startle her, Jason reached out with two fingers and touched the spot. He pulled back bloody fingertips.
“What happened to you, girl?”
I‘ve been shot, and quit talking to me like I'm some mangy mutt.
He jerked his head up to meet her gaze. The wolf stared at him with eyes so human he could be having a conversation with some woman in a bar, not squatting in the forest, talking to a wolf and hearing her respond in his mind.
Jason glanced around, sensing for imminent danger. Those deadly wolves were out there and he sat crouched between a rock wall and an injured animal. The scent of their blood alone would draw all manner of beasts, but he couldn't leave her. She'd saved his life, and he had an affinity for animals.
“Come on, girl, let's get you to a vet and then maybe I can have my head shrunk.” He bent forward to scoop up the black beauty when a threatening growl stopped him.
The bullet was silver. I don't have much longer. Run while you can. They'll kill you! Her eyes burned red, then slowly shifted back to amber.
“Silver? What the hell are you, a Werewolf?” He laughed at the ridiculous notion, but quickly sobered when the wolf didn’t even blink.
Realization caused his stomach to bottom out. The wolves that’d attacked his fellow travelers were much larger than normal, and their eyes had glowed red, too.
“I have seriously lost my mind. Or maybe it's all a dream,” he added, liking that explanation a lot better. “Yeah, this is all a dream and I'm supposed to save you. You'll turn out to be a real hot woman and we'll get freaky in the woods while danger surrounds us. I can handle that.”
She growled again, the sound weaker than before. Leave, you fool. They'll kill you!
“Yeah, sure. I'm going to be killed by Werewolves.” He laughed, his muscles relaxing. “Go ahead and shift for me then. You've gotta be fine as hell since this is my dream.”
Run, you idiot! I can't shift with silver in my body and I'm too weak to protect you!
“Well, that's all you had to say.” He studied her wound, squinting to see it clearly in the dark. “I'll just get this out of you.”
Her eyes blazed red again then quickly flickered out. If you so much as attempt to stick that knife in me--
“Relax, darlin'.” He chuckled. “I happen to have a few cool tricks of my own.”

It's Almost Time...

Three months of writing, three agonizing rounds of edits... and I just finished the galleys today. Moonlit Dream, my 1st werewolf story, will be released this Monday. Talk about making it by the skin of your teeth. I was so scared it wouldn't be done in time and the release date would be pushed back, the release date I'd grown so fond of... ( - :

But, it's done and ready to go. Eureka!

Now, I can read some more books, and make some more book trailers (my new hobby). Then, maybe, I can really get down to business on my third book in the Blood Revelation series.

My New Favorite Movie

CENTER STAGE 2: TURN IT UP

Looooooooooooooooooooove it! Great music, awesome dancing, amazing talent.

Kate Parker is a money-less ultra-talented dancer who goes to New Yrk to try out for the prestigious American Ballet Academy. Though she has the talented, she doesn't have th emoney, so when it comes down to the final cut, it's all about funding. One girl's daddy donates a ton of money to the school. Kate's daddy would rather spend money on lottery tickets. Rich snob makes it, Kate doesn't.

Rather than tell her sister the truth, she claims she's made it in and she stays in New York where she finds work at a new club. She also meets Tommy, who did make it into the academy (and I' normally not into the whole blue-eyed blond look but OMG!!!!!!!!!) and falls in love.

Can Tommy convince her she's good enough for another try at the academy?

Seriously, they need to release the soundtrack.

The Path To Freedom by Lisa Pietsch

OK, you may think I'm biased due to the fact this book was published by one of my own publishers, or by th efact Lisa is a fellow "Sapphire Blue Bombshell", but ... read the book and you will know I don't need to be biased to say this book is awesome.

Sarah Stevens has let herself go, to the point she loses her job as a military cop. With little money, no prospects, and coming off a break-up, she goes to a boot camp designed to get those extra pounds off.

Sarah goes from fat and blah to "Day-umm!" while in the program (and might I add that I LOVE how she had to go to BOOT CAMP for this and really work. I hate books where the ugly duckling just springs up gorgeous in no time at all. Sarah put in WORK).

With her new skills and hot bod, she is recruited to a special task force and goes deep undercover for her first assignment. DEEP undercover. Sarah has to do some questinable things in her new job, but the author has written the book in a way that you really don't find yourself judging Sarah. Instead, you're hastily reading on (despite knowng you have to go to work the next morning, you just keep on reading...)to see what happens next in this action-packed adventure.

Action... adventure... suspense... a team of gorgeous men, and a kick-ass heroine. This book has it all!

Well done, Mrs. Pietsch, well done!

Alternate Chapter - The Fire Still Burns

Thought I'd post the priginal 1st chapter to The Fire Still Burns. This was cut from th published version, but gives you a nice feel for the main characters. This is one of the books you can choose from if selected as a winer in my contest (go to www.crystalrainlove.com if you don't know what contest I'm talking about).

1

“Have you seen her yet?”

“No,” Adam Good answered, moving his morning paper out of the way before his mother could slam a plate of hash browns, bacon and eggs on top of it. “I'm not particularly looking for Brynn Wylie.”

“Don't speak that name in this house!” Doris Good's round humorless face was red and pinched, her lips pursed in that way that used to frighten the crap out of Adam and his older brother, Zeke, when they were kids. “And she's still a Harlot as far as I'm concerned, whether she married into a new name or not.”

“Harlow,” Adam corrected her as she sat at the table next to him, smacking his hand when he reached for a piece of bacon off his plate.

“Grace first, young man. You weren't raised in a house of sin.” Adam rolled his eyes but obediently lowered his head and took his mother's hand as she said grace. “And don't you go defending her, not after the disgrace she brought upon this family.”

He wanted to ask how his girlfriend shattering his heart to bits and leaving town could have disgraced the whole family but knew better than to open his mouth, lest he get smacked in it. Black Bear Gorge was a rural Tennessee community, a small town with a small town mentality, and everyone knew why Brynn had left. They'd never let the Goods forget why.

“Eat your food! The Lord doesn't like waste.”

“Yes, ma'am.” Adam forced a forkful of scrambled eggs down his throat while he scanned the front page of the paper. Dead center was a picture of the fire-damaged house he'd been in the day before. It was the second major blaze in two months and both looked like arson. It was his job to find the arsonist but he didn't have any leads. This sort of thing just didn't happen in Black Bear Gorge and as much as he hated to admit it, his people didn't have a clue how to handle an investigation like this.

“Anna May Franklin saw her yesterday at the gas station. She said she has put on some weight. Living a life of gluttony will do that to you.”

Adam eyed his mother's over-heaped plate of food and suppressed a snicker. “I imagine so. It's none of my concern though.”

“Well, good. Keep on thinking like that and it'll keep you from doing something stupid.”

“Like begging her to come back to me?”

“You were pretty smitten with the tramp before she left.”

“Those bridges have been burned, Mama.” Adam pushed his plate away and rose from the table.

“You haven't finished--”

“Then finish it for me. Lord forbid I waste a slice of bacon.” Judging by the width of her hips, Doris would have no trouble finishing off his plate and her own. “I have a big day ahead of me at work. I have to go.”

“Are you going to Ezekiel's grave? It's been a month today.”

Adam paused with his arm halfway into his jacket. “I loved Zeke, Mama, but I can't go to his grave every single day. I just can't wallow in pain the way you do.”

“He'd do it for you!” Doris snapped, standing to collect the dishes, angrily banging them together as she stacked the plates, disregarding the wasted food still filling them.

“I'm trying to find his murderer, Mama. That'll have to be good enough for now!”

Adam left the dining room and exited the house through the kitchen door before she had a chance to respond. He didn't need the added aggravation of a full out confrontation with her. It was bad enough his brother had been burned alive inside a vacant farmhouse a month ago but now there was another burned down house to investigate. And on top of all that stress, Brynn Harlow Wylie was back in town.

Adam climbed into his truck and slammed the door, resting his head on the steering wheel. Why in the hell did Brynn have to come back to Black Bear Gorge now? When she left just after high school he said good riddance, hurt and outraged by her betrayal. After a few months passed he'd started to miss her. At that point he would have probably begged for her to come back to him if she had returned, but she hadn't.

Brynn had married his best friend, Cal Wylie, not a surprise since she was pregnant with his child when they left town together, and they'd stayed away. During those thirteen years she'd been gone Adam's feelings toward her had turned icy cold. Years ago, he reached the point where he never wanted to see her again but now she was back and in such a small town it was inevitable they would cross paths. The whole town would be holding their breath until they did, and then the gossip mills would go into overdrive.

At one time he would have been happy to see her again, just to tell her to go to hell. Now that he was older and wiser he knew that would be a mistake. It would show her just how deeply she'd hurt him, a revelation he wasn't about to make. He didn't know what he was going to do when he saw her again, but he didn't have time to think about that in detail. He had an arsonist to catch, an arsonist who had killed his brother.

~~~
“Might I put in my two cents worth and state that this is a dumb idea?”
“Actually, I think that's about sixty cents you've put in already,” Brynn answered her mother as she helped fold towels which had been dumped on her mother's bed fresh from the dryer.
Linda Harlow shook her dyed auburn curls, adding another folded mauve towel to the growing stack and picked up another from the pile that were in disarray. “You need to stay as far away from Adam Good as you possibly can. He's the one who ran you off from here.”
“Actually, his whole family ran me off, along with the other bible belts,” Brynn stated, trying to keep the pain from coming through in her voice. It was a skill she'd learned to hone to perfection over the past ten years. “And the chief contacted me for help. They need my expertise. How could I say no?”
“You open your mouth and say 'No',” Linda responded, dragging out the word slowly for emphasis. “For chrissakes, Ezekiel Good was murdered in the first fire. The gossips will have a field day when they discover you're investigating the case.”
Brynn drew in a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. She'd arrived back in Black Bear Gorge two weeks earlier and from the moment she stepped into town she realized it hadn't changed at all. The snickers and whispered conversations erupted around her immediately. Fortunately, she'd managed to keep her son, Nate, shielded from most of it.
“I have to find some type of work if I'm ever going to get the money together to get back out of here and this is something I'm more than qualified to do,” Brynn explained. She hadn't intended on working with the BBGF&R – Black Bear Gorge Fire and Rescue – when she returned to her childhood home but Zeke had been murdered, burned alive inside of an abandoned farmhouse a month ago and there was another fire the day before. Chief Parker wanted the arsonist stopped before the whole town went up in flames. He called her for help late the previous night.
“Qualified, yes, but can you handle it emotionally? You're going to be working with Adam.”
Brynn cringed at the idea of it. She dreaded seeing the scorn in his eyes upon their first meeting. She could still see the way he looked at her thirteen years ago when he destroyed her foolish heart. She never wanted to go through that again but she refused to hide from him. She hadn't done anything wrong. He'd just refused to listen to her side of the story.
“ I can handle it. It's not like we'll be working side by side. Besides, I'll be damned if I let any of the Goods make me feel like a lesser person ever again.”
“Well, you can't blame Adam for feeling resentment towards you but they didn't have to run you out of town like that.”
Brynn bit into her lower lip, refraining from finally telling the truth about what happened all those years ago. What good would it do now? Everyone saw her as the town tramp, even her own mother believed she had cheated on Adam of her own free will – and with his best friend, which was the worst part of it all. “What can I say, Mama? I'm sorry your daughter turned out to be the town tramp and left you and Daddy here to drown in the shame of it all.”
“Oh honey, I didn't - ”
“Save it.” Brynn threw a hand up as she dropped the towel she had been folding and turned for the door. “I know what you really think.”
She stomped down the hall to her own room and slammed the door behind her, the action reminiscent of the tantrums she would throw as a child, ironic considering she was standing in the pale yellow, daisy infested bedroom of her youth. She threw herself backward on the bed, clenching her fists, fighting off the need to scream while simultaneously holding back the tears threatening to fall. She hadn't cried since the birth of Nate, and she wasn't about to change that now. Especially not over anything having the least bit to do with Adam Good or her sullied reputation.
Turning on her stomach, Brynn reached down into the trunk at the foot of her bed and lifted a scrapbook from it. She had purposely left all of her belongings behind when she left town in disgrace and hadn't wanted to see any of her teenage memorabilia upon returning, but figured it couldn't hurt now, not when she knew she would be seeing Adam face to face in just a few hours.
She ran her fingers over the pink and yellow plaid cover, willing herself the courage to open it. “What the hell,” she muttered, flipping open the cover. She felt her heart skip a beat as she looked into Adam Good's dark blue eyes. The picture in her scrapbook was just like the one in her head. She had never truly let him go. In her memories the dirty-blond hair was as lustrous, the eyes were as hypnotizing as what stared back at her from the photo she had taped lovingly to the first page of her scrapbook, surrounded by glittery heart stickers and rose petals.
He'd given her dozens of roses during their seven-year relationship which started at the tender age of eleven. Together they shared their first kiss, their first everything. She didn't want to think about how many other women he had shared those things with after she'd left. For all she knew he was married with a houseful of kids. Her mother had never kept her updated on his status and she certainly hadn't asked.
Brynn closed the book and put it away, rolling off of the bed. She shed her nightshirt and pulled on a pair of jeans and a black T-shirt just before the door opened and her twelve-year old son barreled in, his face more sour than a bucket full of lemons.
“Honey, you have got to learn to knock. I almost wasn't decent.”
“Sorry, Mom.” Nate's tone reeked of preteen angst as he fell back onto her bed. “I want out of this hell hole.”
“Watch your language, young man, and you know we can't afford to leave here right now.”
“Yeah, thanks to my dear old dad. May he rot in -”
“Nathaniel.”
“What? It's not like he ever did anything for me, for either of us. He was barely even around. He could have at least taken out a life insurance policy before offing himself.”
Brynn sighed heavily as she sat on the bed next to her lanky son and reached back to tousle his sandy blond hair. There was no point telling him a life insurance policy wouldn't have mattered since Cal had decided to take his own life. It wouldn't take away Nate's anger. “I know we're in a rough spot right now and no, your father -” She nearly choked on the word - “wasn't the greatest father by far, but these are the circumstances we've been given and we just have to make do.”
“So why can't I go to school?” Bitter blue eyes looked at her and she felt like the worst mother in the world.
“The year is almost over with and I don't think you'd like the small town school system very much anyway. The home schooling will work out just fine.”
“It's because the people in this town don't like you, isn't it?”
Brynn turned her face away, feeling the shame of her past. It was a pity her son would have to suffer because of her stupid mistake but, without that one mistake he wouldn't have been born.
“Why do they hate you so? Is it because you got out of this hick town?”
“Something like that,” she murmured before standing and pulling him to his feet, embracing him in a much needed hug.
“Mo-om...”
“Oh hush, sweetie. Nobody can see your mama stealing a little love from her favorite man.” She playfully pushed the back of his head. “Now run on down to your grandpa's study. Grandma is starting your lessons in a little bit.”
“Yes, ma'am.”
Brynn watched him leave, her heart aching with the love she felt for him and the knowledge that if they didn't get back out of Black Bear Gorge soon she would have to tell him the truth about why she had been run out of town.
~~~~

Adam knew something was up the moment he stepped into the rescue station. There was never complete silence when you entered a room with fifteen men in it, especially rowdy country boys like his team members. He tried to shake off the feeling that something extremely bad was about to happen as he noticed the weird looks the guys were giving each other, like they knew something he didn't – something that was going to impact him directly, but by the time he reached the break room there was no shaking it off. Something was up. It was written all over Jamie Lee Preston's heart shaped face.

“Hey, Adam,” she greeted him cautiously before he had a chance to reach for the coffee pot by the microwave. Her blue eyes struggled to hold his; her face was pale all the way up to the roots of her blond hair and she was nibbling on her bottom lip like a little gerbil.

“What is it?” His gut instinct was telling him to get the hell out of dodge. Jamie Lee was probably the closest thing he had to a best friend since Cal Wylie had stolen his girl and left town. The two had grown close over the years and when she looked scared to tell him something, well, he didn't really want to hear it.

“I got some good news and some bad news, big guy.”

He leaned back against the wall, bracing himself with his muscular arms crossed over his chest. “Go on.”

“Well, the chief has pulled in an expert to help find the arsonist.”

That was good. He didn't mind another guy helping with the investigation. The sooner they found the arsonist, the sooner his brother's murderer could be punished. He'd been pushing for extra help all along but the chief hadn't wanted any of the big city boys coming in and taking over. “So what's the bad news?”

“The expert is Brynn.”

You Should Be Watching... Cookie's Fortune

By far, one of the funniest movies I've ever watched. There's nothing more entertaining than watching a bunch of country bumpkins fumble through a "murder" investigation.

Cookie's an old woman just plain tired of living so she kills herself, but her crazy sister doesn't want anyone to know because suicide is a sin, and "nobody in our family commits suicide". She, however, has no qualms about the sin of lying and acts as though she's just found her sister murdered, sparking a homicide investigation which puts an innocent man in jail.

My New Book Trailer

I was so excited after receiving my new cover for Moonlit Dream last night, that I spent several hours today working on a trailer for it. It took a LOT of time and work, but it's so cute. I'm super-excited, even though I know there's plenty of room for improvement.

Oh, well. The more I practice, the better my trailers will be. Oh, and I intend to practice. Alot. LOL!

So... what did you think?

I think I'll make one for The Fire Still Burns on my next day off!

Support Small Press!!! A Leap Of Knowing by Dani Harper

Today I thought I'd promote small presses. Many great authors can be found at small presses. I have no problem with Harlequin or Avon or any of the other mass market publishers out there... In fact, I fully intend on being published in mass market someday, in addition to small press.

Small press and e-books are a little different than the larger publishing houses. They tend to push the envelope more... tend to be more "out of the box". That's why I love them.

Unfortnately, many great authors tend to get overlooked by book snobs, readers who refuse to pick up anything not published by the "big guys".

Hmmm... Did you know Mark Twain originally self-published? Yep.
Keri Arthur, best-selling author of the Riley Jensen series, started with a small press? Yep.

I could go on, but my point is this: Don't be a book snob and miss out on great reads! Download an e-book or pick up a trade-sized book from a small press!

I present you with this challenge: Support e-pubbed and small press authors by checking out one of their books, then tell me what you think of it. Then tell your friends. Then post it in a bulletin or blog. Spread the word & show some support!

I'll start:

I read A Leap Of Knowing by Dani Harper.
A Leap Of Knowing

I enjoyed this book. Dani Harper has taken the myth, or legend, of the gwyllgi (a large, black dog that appears to herald death)and turned it into a wonderful paranormal romance.
Rhys, a warrior, is cursed by faeries with the task of spending eternity as the herald of death, living out his life as a large black dog.
When he saves the life of veterinarian, Morgan, and nobody comes to claim him, she takes him home as her pet. But surprise. Morgan's affection has lifted the curse and Rhys shifts back into his human form.
The faeries have relinquished their claim on Rhys, but only for as long as Morgan wants him.
Rhys must convince Morgan to believe in the unbelievable and accept him and his crazy explanation of where he came from or else he will have to go back to being the faeries' servant.

I was drawn to this book because I've heard stories of the large, black dog that appears before death and was interested in how the author would present this story as a romance. She did not disappoint.

So now it's your turn! Go to www.sapphirebluepublishing.com, www.imajinnbooks.com, www.cobblestonepress.com, www.thewildrosepress.com, www.samhainpublishing.com, or any other e-pubs/small presses out there and get a new book!

The Sims 3

OK, so I was totally hooked on The Sims. Bought every expansion pack, played for hours, yada, yada...

Then they made The Sims 2. The people actually age!!! It was awesome. You could start a family and watch as the generations lived their lives, growing from infant to elder...

I bought all the expansion packs, got a new computer when mine was too slow to keep up... invested mucho cash into this game...

And now they're doing The Sims 3.

I said "No more." Ive put all this time & money into The Sims 2. I'm not ditching it all for THe Sims 3...

But I saw this video. It looks really good:

When Fun Hobbies Go Bad

I started cake decorating when my oldest daughter turned one year old. I refused to buy a store-made cake from a bakery or grocery store. My children's cakes were going to be made with love from their very own mommy.

I had a lot of fun making their cakes and discovered I had a talent for it, despite never taking any classes. I learned from technique books, and trial and error. When my 2nd child was about one or two, I started doing cakes for other people to get some extra money.

I hate cake decorating now. I hate the smell of cake & icing. I cringe when people ask me to do cakes for them. How could something I enjoyed turn into something I abhor? Easy. I was good at it, but it was never a passion.

I still love making my kids' cakes, but after this one last cake I'm doing this week, I'm through doing cakes for other people. The back pain and time consumption just isn't worth it.

Lesson here? Yup. Don't turn a hobby into a job unless you have an absolute PASSION for it. You'll only end up hating it.

(By the way, there was supposed to be a nice little slideshow of my cakes on here, but this stupid blog isn't allowing any of my photobucket slideshows anymore, saying the "tag is not closed" whatever that means. Urrrgh!)

You Should Be Watching ... NCIS

NCIS is a good show if you like action and humor.

Ncis Pictures, Images and Photos

Loaded with both, it is guaranteed to keep you entertained. Though we are inundated with criminal investigation shows, none of them have the perfect blend of action,suspense, investigation, and humor that NCIS has achieved.

Just a few things about NCIS I love:

GIBBS
NCIS TV series Pictures, Images and Photos
He's highly intelligent, impossible to get one over on, and likes to slap his underlings upside the head, which is always enjoyable to watch.

TONY
Sexy Michael Weatherly Pictures, Images and Photos
Hopeless womanizer. It's amazing he ever gets any work done, but Tony brings a lot of entertaiment to the show, particularly when he's missing with McGee. Poor McGee.

McGee a*k*a "PROBIE"
NCIS Pictures, Images and Photos
Dubbed "probie" by Tony, McGee is a computer whiz and the slightly dorky but oh-so-loveable member of the NCIS team.

ABBY !!!
NCIS SHE IS HOT Pictures, Images and Photos

Abby rocks! This quirky character who fills up on huge masses of caffeine and rock music in order to do her job, is super-intelligent despite looking like a punk rocker/high school dropout, and steals every scene she's in.

Interview With Christle Gray

I had the chance to interview fellow Sapphire Blue Publishing author, Christle Gray, the author of Second Chances. Here's what she had to say:

Second Chances-Christle Gray

Rain: Tell us about Second Chances:

CG: Well, it’s my very first completed manuscript, so it means a lot to me, and I was pleasantly shocked when Sapphire Blue picked it to be published. It deals a lot with loss, trust, and moving on. I’ll go ahead and give you the cover blurb:

Gallery owner Kristin Shepherd is resigned to living a life on her own in London, England after losing her husband to cancer. That was before she met handsome Scottish actor David McDougal. David swears the relationship with his fiancé, Sophie Miller, is for public convenience only, but Kristin finds Sophie’s unwillingness to release her hold on David quite a complication to the chemistry that exists between them. Within David’s dark eyes, will Kristin find the courage to trust enough to love again? And, are there such things as Second Chances?

Rain: Do you write in any other genres?

CG: I read all genres, so I am working on stories in several other genres as well. I have a paranormal romance in the works, a paranormal chic lit, and a sci fi story. I also write quite a bit of poetry, a few which have been published over the years.

Rain: Why did your parents take a perfectly good name like Crystal and misspell it? (Oops, slip of the smart-ass there. I’m just playing!)

CG: LOL! I have gotten grief about my name my whole life! My mother had me when she was very young. She knew what she wanted my name to be, she just didn’t know how she wanted to spell it. She tells me that she and the nurses wrote down every possible spelling they could think of, and picked CHRISTLE out of the group. I’ve learned to embrace it, for it makes me different and memorable. (Even if finding monogrammed or personalized items is impossible)

Rain: If Second Chances became a movie, who would you pick to play the characters?

CG: The hero is an easy pick. I modeled him after Scottish actor David Tennant, whom I adore! As for my heroine, Kristin, I think that maybe British actress Michelle Ryan would be a good pick. She has the dark hair and fair skin, and can do a passable American accent.

Rain: If Second Chances had a theme song, what would it be?

CG: Hmmmm… “Heal The Pain” by George Michael. Kristin has quite a bit of healing to do in order to move on with her life and open her heart again. (And, I happen to really like that song)

Rain: What are you working on now?

CG: I have three other works in progress, but I am mainly concentrating on a science fiction romance called Burn With Me right now.

Rain: What did you do when you found out Second Chances was going to be published?

CG: My husband and sister were at home with me, and I made them both read the e-mail on my laptop. Then I planted a big one on my husband and my sister jumped up and down and gave me a hug. I think we went out to dinner together to celebrate.

Rain: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only take three things with you and one hot celebrity, what and who would you take?

CG: Heh, my celebrity would be David Tennant, of course! And I am SO NOT the deserted island type of girl. But, if I must, I would take an mp3 player (I like music ALOT), a razor (hairy legs…eewwwww), and a bag full of all my favorite books, so I could read when I’m not accosting poor David. (Did I REALLY just type that?)

Rain: If you were a porno star, what would your stage name be?

CG: You’re killing me with some of these questions! Porno Star? Me? Ummm…how about…Chrissie Stacks?

Rain: Is there anything you’d like your readers to know?

CG: Just that I want to thank them wholeheartedly for their support, and that the authors and editors at Sapphire Blue Publishing are the bomb! Show some love!

I Love My Doggies!

I believe every child should have a dog. They are the greatest pets. Who else is always going to be there when you need them? Loves you unconditionally? Who else can you pour your heart out to without fear of being judged?

Dogs are loving and gentle, yet will kill for you if you're in danger. There's nothing better than that.

I love my dogs:
